Who We Are

Arts Thornton is a division of the Thornton Parks, Recreation and Community Programs. It was established in 2006 and offers community-based programs and year-round events in partnership with other city departments and nonprofit organizations. With funding provided by the city, Adams County, and the Scientific Cultural and Facilities District (SCFD), Arts Thornton develops and presents art classes, camps, annual concert series and cultural events, exhibits and public art.

What We Do

Public Art Panels consist of project stakeholders (residents, artists, business owners, etc.) that work with the Thornton Arts, Sciences and Humanities Council (TASHCO) to ensure a thorough and competitive commission process; guided by transparency, inclusion, and diversity. To learn more about the commission process, please visit our webpage

Each public art project has a unique panel that collaborates with TASHCO members to review applications, select semifinalists, and score final proposals.  These proposals are then recommended to Thornton City Council for final approval. Panel members are an essential part of the commission process and help guide the creative direction of public art to ensure projects are informed by the community.

Depending on the scope and complexity of the project, panel members may volunteer up to 100 hours spread out through a six-month period.

Panel members meet via Zoom on Mondays and/or Thursdays evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., with presentations scheduled Saturday afternoons from noon to 4:30 p.m.
