Who We Are
The Horticulture team collaborates with Park Maintenance personnel to enhance the park system with thoughtfully designed shrub, perennial, and annual flower beds. Together, we focus on redesigning these beds to incorporate native plantings that are not only water-wise but also provide vital support for local pollinators and wildlife.
What We Do
- Weeding: Removing invasive plants and weeds from within and around the shrub beds to reduce competition for nutrients.
- Mulching: Applying a fresh layer of mulch to help retain soil moisture, suppress weed growth, and provide a polished look.
- Litter Removal: Collecting and disposing of trash or debris found within the landscaped areas.
- Light Pruning: Removing dead, damaged, or overgrown branches to encourage healthy growth and maintain the desired shape of the shrubs.
- Watering: Providing supplemental water during dry spells, especially for newly established plants or during peak summer heat.
- Deadheading: Removing spent blooms from any flowering shrubs or annuals to promote further blooming and keep the bed tidy.
- Edging: Maintaining clean, defined lines between the shrub bed and the surrounding lawn or pathway.
- Site Preparation: Helping to clear areas or prepare the soil for any new seasonal plantings.
